We recently started working with Nick Johnson, Land and New Homes Branch Manager at Ashtons Estate Agents, on our latest development Eccleston Green in St Helens.
Nick gave us an insight into his career journey, thoughts on the property world and main drivers…
What was your first job?
My first job out of college was working at a mortgage advisers on an apprenticeship scheme. I started my career there before moving into estate agency in 2007. People normally move the other way but I am the exception to the rule; being tied to a desk didn’t suit me.
It has been a strange couple of years in the property world, how do you see the next 12 months going?
The market has been very volatile over the last two years, but market confidence is heavily influenced by the economy and the stability of interest rates, which we haven’t had much of recently! Currently, we have stable interest rates and we’ve experienced a very positive start to the year with sales up and lots of new houses coming to the market. We are coming into Spring which historically is our busy period when the clocks jump forward, so expecting big things for the rest of 2024!
What is it that drives you?
I’m very competitive and love to win, which helps in estate agency as it can be very competitive – that’s made so much easier when you love the job you do! I’ve always said that if I won the lottery I would come to work and do this job for free, I feel privileged to be able to help people with their largest ever purchase and being able to relieve some of the stress and pressure out of their house move is very humbling. I will never get bored of handing over the keys to someone purchasing their dream home and seeing their excitement is an incredible feeling, to be able to get that from your job is not something you should take for granted.
Stay tuned for us introducing a new partner next month!
